ON 6 MARCH 1957, I WOULD NEVER HAVE BELIEVED THAT….

I would never have believed that in a Ghana that has been independent for 59 years, and has developed relations with Interpol, the FBI, Scotland Yard and many other first-class detection agencies,in the world the police would be so toothless and unprofessional that when an old woman suffering from dementia is burnt alive publicly for merely mistaking someone else’s bedroom for her own, they would not be able to bring the offenders to book in five years and four months!

THE COLLECTIVE MADNESS THAT HAS STRUCK GHANA — galamsey — STRIKES AGAIN!

Illegal mining has been a major problem for government in recent times; many of the water bodies in the country have been destroyed by the mining.

THE TRAGIC CONSEQUENCES OF UNCONCERN ABOUT GALAMSEY

Maybe we have to sue the government? For it collects direct and indirect taxes to safeguard the public welfare, right? If it doesn’t use the taxes to ensure the public welfare – in this case, repair the damage done to the rivers by the galamsey operators so that posterity can have water to drink – it ought to be sued to do its duty, mustn’t it?

UPDATED: PAPER, PAPER EVERYWHERE BUT NOT A DROP OF POTABLE WATER

River Twafuor remained in use until a particularly useless and immensely self-centred “educated” man bulldozed himself on to our stool and became our chief. The fool neglected everything, including how to enforce the protections that had previously been accorded to the stream. So, today, Twafuor has dried up. Dead.

…AND NOBODY CARES!

Yes, our river was once so mighty that its very name defined it – Supong [Big River.] The galamsey people have destroyed it. Parts of it have dried up; parts have become mud cakes full of algae. And yet this was a river that you were advised not to dare to swim in, when it had rained!
