The “impossible” vote on UN Security Council Resolution 1973 resulted as follows:
No = 0
The BBC reports that British warplanes based in Cyprus will be moving in on Libyan airspace on Friday 18th March 2011.
French planes are also going in. And the USA has the aircraft carrier, Enterprise, armed with Harrier aircraft, steaming in the Red Sea.
Gaddafi believes in force. He will be facing the greatest force on earthy very soon. Those who live by force, will be brought down by force.
Even some of the countries that abstained, condemned Gaddafi. “The United tates stand with the pewople of Libya”, said Susan Rice, the US Ambassador to the UN. At last, the US has moved to support the people of Libya.
Benghazi broke out into loud, triumphal chanting,reminiscent of the cries of joy in Cairo’s Tahrir Square, after Hosni Mubarak had been overthrown. The people in the streets heard the announcement on the UN vote. Gunfire and fireworks rent the air, as people shot into the air out of sheer relief and happiness. At last, the United Nations means something to the ordinary people of the world. They have not been left to the “mercy” of Gaddafi.
